The $4.3 million dollar, 280,000 square foot HVAC renovation included complete replacement of the existing HVAC and control systems for three buildings. Project included replacement of two 320 ton chillers, two 110,000 CFM air handling systems, one cooling tower, a 28,000 CFM air handler, a 10,000 CFM three-deck multizone 205 terminal unit, two 5,100 MBH boilers, a 2,000 MBH boiler, as well as associated fans and pumps. Design and construction were complete in approximately nine months. Due to specialized space usages, the Owner could not vacate the building during construction. Construction was accomplished in small increments with close contractor-owner coordination and scheduling. Parrish Construction Group partnered with NBP Engineers, with a project scope that included creating updated floor plans for all buildings as well as documenting the existing systems to determine what, if anything, could be reused. Investigation also included updating undocumented changes made since original construction. Many spaces had been converted from classrooms to computer labs, which resulted in high space temperatures prior to the renovation, necessitating the need to calculate cooling and heating loads for current space usages.
